Fran and I came up with the answer today. Some teams don't need the extra motivation, but for some reason the Flyers do. We're as insane as they are if we just keep asking "why" and don't do anything about it. If they're fine playing like a bunch of peewees then maybe they should be treated like them. So we're asking coach Jung to make some team policy changes, with a hint of Guantanamo Bay to them:
- They're coming back to Philly in a school bus.
- No player has a cellular telephone, walkman, PDA, or VHS for the rest of the playoffs.
- Tonight they move from whatever cushy hotel they're in to a motel. When they get back to Philly they move into the Holiday Inn on Packer Ave.
- All their meals are eaten in the hotel or in the rink. Their only form of transportation is said school bus to and from the rink. They're either in the rink or in that hotel.
- No autographs after the game.
- One call a day to your kids, supervised by a naked Jack McIlhargey.
- No Interviews with the press.
- No newspapers or porno mags.
- Every time a player fucks up, as deemed by coach Jung, he gets 20 seconds in an ice cold shower. The ceiling on accumulated ice showers is at 4 minutes.
If this sounds a little bit like what happens to the Indians in Major League then good. That's exactly what we want it to be like. Everyone's got the fire except the 20 people we need to have it.
And all of Philadelphia is losing faith, that is if they haven't already.
Tomorrow's game day. These overpaid pansies better show up. Like first period against the Maple Leafs show up.

...you said it man
cant we get like keith primeau to come by and have a talk with the boys??
somebody...anybody
are we loosing carcillo to suspension
i hope not, i really want him to knock the fuck outta matt cooke
Haven't heard anything about Carcillo, but if the NHL doesn't want teams "sending messages" then he'll def. be out for Game 2.
Give me 5 minutes alone with the team and I'll get them to score 18 goals.
Nice! I like it. Snider's hot water heating bill would drop dramatically ;-)
I believe the blame for this lands squarely on leadership. It starts from the top. Holmgren needs to get into the locker room and raise hell. Nobody's safe. ESPECIALLY JOHN STEVENS.
Which brings me to the next down the chain. Attention Mr Stevens, you pussy boy soft coach, You have Berube in the locker room. Inject him with Meth, and put a penguins jersey on a hooker. Now tell the team to do that on the ice. If you can't, I CAN, for half your salary.
Then comes the players. If Richards didn't storm into the locker room, punch Hartnell in the face for his shitty penalties last night, and didn't kick briere where his balls WOULD be for that lack of effort, then Richie's not doing his job. Young captain or not, he leads this team and should be leading by example.
Bullshit cross-checks and fighting senior citizens with less than a minute to go sends a message alright. A message that we don't have our shit together.
NOW GET OUT THERE AND BRING ME THE HEAD OF A PENGUIN.
GO FLYERS.
That was beautiful, Pegleggedpete. I cried my own tears.
i gotta say, Pegleggedpete, i disagree with the richards/briere part. i saw briere putting out more effort than richards last night. they say richards had over 20 minutes of ice time...i barely noticed him. i thought lupol put out more effort than anyone...he always seemed to be in the middle of the play
amen, sister, amen!
You want to talk about a disappearing act just look at Casper... I mean Carter. I didn't see him until the third period with a couple of shots. We all saw Hartnell take bad penalties and the one with the goaltender was BS. He was pushed after driving to the net. The replay clearly shows the ref was looking at the fans and then turns around and sees Hartnell on top of the Fleury. At a minimum they both go or they both don't go.
Way to many penalties.
