Wow that was ugly and amazing. The Philadelphia Flyers are moving on to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals!
If they handed out wins based on which team played better the Caps surely would have taken last night’s game 7. Unfortunately for the Caps it’s based on goals. And that’s not meant to be taken as snide, it’s just the only thing the Caps didn’t do last night, especially in the third period, was put the puck in the net.
Overall, however, I would say that the Flyers did deserve to win the series. With a little more focus they easily could have won game 1. Game 2 they shut the Caps down offensively and got a shutout. In game three they were just too much to handle offensively for the Caps (probably mostly in part to my presence). In game 7 they had every chance imaginable to end the Flyers season and they just didn’t finish them off. Sprinkle 2 overtime winners on top of that that there you have it.
What a series for the Flyers. Danny Briere led the Entire NHL in points with 11. Vinny Prospal has the 2nd most points of any player moving onto the next round with 9. John Stevens and Martin Biron both got not only their first playoff win but also won their first post-season series. Biron also got his first playoff shutout and is now 2-0 in playoff overtimes. Mike Knuble and Joffery Lupul both got their first playoff overtime winners.
All this during a time of year the Flyers weren’t supposed to be playing.
Things I won’t miss about the Caps Series:
- Alex Ovechkin’s goal celebrations – Jason Arnott should sit him down and give him a talking to
- Mike Green’s fat face, stupid hair, bad attitude, and horrible work ethic
- How the Flyers were kind of underdogs but kind of not
- Analysts talking about Bruce Boudreau like he is Jack Adams himself
- Seeing Ted Leonsis in his fart laden cords and Caps jersey
- Having to see faux-fans wearing red and cheering at the wrong time during games
Good riddance to the Red Army.
Ps – did anyone see John Stevens jumping up and down on the bench?

lol @ fart-laden cords.
And YES I saw Stevens jump up and down like a little girl.
Whew!
Go Flyers!
damn, anon beat me to lol-ing about the fart laden cords. dang!
holy crap. i think a little pee came out when Lupul slid that one past Huet. Seeing Leonsis look so rejected was cute, but the camera missed the subway 12 inch BMT he had in his back pocket. Lots of mayo on it....
Correction, it was Lupul's second playoff overtime winner...He scored one when he was on the Ducks
Eric - this isn't PTI. I'd prefer my errors go uncorrected. I didn't even look into that one, I just hoped it was true because it made my point better...busted!
