The promise of a nationally televised game might not be that exciting for those of you in Philly, but to those of us who have been transplanted across the country it represents a never in a lifetime chance to watch the Flyers in HD with bipartisan announcers. And with NBC's announcement that their Sunday NHL game on the 22nd will be the Flyers and Pens, this month is truly an anomaly.
5 of the next 8 games are either on Versus or NBC - shocking, right? Have you ever sneezed so hard that you thought "Maybe I'll just stay down here, laying on the ground..what's the point?" Well the point is the Flyers play the Sabres, Rangers, Red Wings, Penguins, and Devils in glorious HD over the next two weeks. And if you are either overseeing the first few months of Obama's presidency in Washington or watching the collapse of the financial institutions in New York you'll get an extra game in HD locally.
I love hockey, but I'm not sure that live hockey, especially when you factor in the cost, is at all better than watching a game in HD on from the comfort of your own tire swing. A six pack of Sierra Nevada's costs a little over $10. Six beers at a game would cost you almost $50. Plus you'd never be able to get them because you'd be jammed in-between 12 people on each side of you.
And what exactly is the point of hockey without beer? Or a keg of it?

love this news. I'm a huge Flyers fan who grew up in Philly and am going to school in Pittsburgh, so my choices are limited to the absolutely horrid penguins announcers or national games, and when the Flyers are on national Tv its a real treat.
